Speakers are far from the end-all when it comes to quality audio. That said, the quality of your speakers can have a dramatic effect on your overall experience.

Types of Speakers

Speakers come in a variety of configurations, with the simplest being a single-driver speaker. Single-driver speakers are regular, everyday speakers with nothing extra. They’ll suffice when you’re at the gym working out or jogging down the street, but when it comes to the sound system in your vehicle – they’re seriously lacking.

To improve your car’s audio, you’ll want to go with 2-way, 3-way, or 4-way speakers. Think of these as “speakers within speakers,” and each one is miles ahead of single-driver speakers.

The most common type of speaker is 2-way speakers. They’re comprised of one large speaker that handles the mids and lows, and one small speaker that handles the highs.

Now, 3-way speakers are similar to 2-ways, but they include another smaller speaker for the mids. These speakers are for people who want to go beyond the status quo and venture into serious upgrade territory.

Finally, 4-way speakers have the same setup as 3-way speakers but include an additional “super tweeter” that allows for clearer sound and a wider range. The 4-way speakers are more or less top-of-the-line, but buyer beware: not all 4-way speaker brands are created equal.

Which do You Choose?

There’s a lot of nuances when it comes to quality car audio, and simply buying expensive, top-of-the-line equipment is not necessarily going to yield the best sound. For example, if you plan on installing a complete sound system, using all 4-way speakers may not be the best choice, for not only will these speakers interfere with one another if positioned improperly, they are a nightmare to equalize without individual amplifier channels to drive them. Not to mention, due to an overall increase in install complexity, you will have to find additional places to install these speakers.

If you’re not sure exactly what you need and you’re wanting to configure your own setup, speaking with a trusted professional and describing exactly what you’re trying to achieve is probably your best bet.

OEM Audio Plus

Our Team has always approached vehicle sound as a System, where there exists a harmonious relationship between the amp, speakers and vehicle. Where others may chose to patch together an assortment of speakers subwoofers, cables and amplifiers, we’ll provide you with a full package sound system – designed to work as a cohesive unit, without the guesswork.

Our speakers are designed from the ground up – not only with the vehicle in mind but with each other as well, with complimentary frequencies responding with natural overlaps, enhancing one other instead of interfering. This results in seamless, full-range, detailed sound reproduction of instruments and voices without localizing the speakers – a trait commonly associated with fine high-end home audio speakers.

We are frequently asked what brand speakers we use. Simply put, we exclusively use our own brand speakers (OEM Audio Plus) for all our applications. Our designs are fulfilled by OEM-Grade Tier 1 suppliers to our specifications designed, engineered and tuned specifically for each platform we serve. This level of precision manufacturing (specific to each application) allows us to guarantee ease of installation, reliability and high-resolution sound.
